I just read Jane Vaughan´s website Cria Genesis and an article about selenium http://criagenesis.cc/selenium-se-supplementation-in-alpacas/ and also here (scroll down to Minerals) http://criagenesis.cc/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/CriaGenesis-adult-nutrition1.pdf : "Selenium deficiency may be treated using an annual depot injection under the skin of barium selenate. Alternatively, alpacas may be supplemented by short-acting oral preparations at a rate of 0.1 mg/kg BW orally every 4-6 weeks. Do not inject alpacas with sodium selenite or sodium selenite as it can cause peracute liver failure and death." On my selenium bottle it sais Sodium selenite... I wonder if any of you in this forum are aware of what kind of selenium you are using? Or if anybody has bad experience of sodium selenite? I will now contact my vet and get another source of selenium! Looking forward to many answers! All the best from Sweden and me!
