I have a 6y.o. male who has become consumed with desire to harm another male alpaca. First some history: We started with alpacas in March 2010 and we followed some incorrect advice. The breeder we bought form kept the herd sire isolated in a stall surrounded by females and told us to do the same. We did for about 2 weeks and decided it was extremely cruel, so we put him with the herd. The herd is made up of 6 females and 3 other males. 2 of those males were 2y.o.and 1 was nursing. We had all of these alpacas together until October when we went to Marty's clinic at West Ranch and were given much needed advice. We have since divided our meadow into 4 separate paddocks and separated boys and girls. We rotate for day and night so they are all in the divided barn at night. We have worked with and been successful at developing trust with the animals. This April one of the now 3y.o. males, Gigi, started challenging Kahuna (the 6yo male) and even put him down on the ground and bloodied Kahuna. At this point we were able to stop it and calm everyone down (Hah we were foolish). This continued until Kahuna had enough and let Gigi have it. Gigi now has wounds and stitches and is very fearful. We have put Kahuna in with the females so he cannot get to Gigi. Our inside fencing dividing paddocks is 5 strand wire with stays every 3 feet. Kahuna goes through the fence to get Gigi. This morning Kahuna went through the fence while my husband, Bill, was standing there. He pinned Gigi and another 3yo came over to fight Kahuna. The vet has to come again today to treat injuries. Bill finally separated the boys. Bill put Kahuna in a necklace and Kahuna took his front legs and wrapped them around Bill's leg. He would have gotten Bill good if Bill had not gotten him to the ground first. We have Gigi scheduled for gelding as we thought he was the problem but are now unsure. Gigi is respectful and cooperative but Kahuna is becoming more unmanageable. Kahuna paces the fence all day waiting for a chance to attack.
All of this to say----- What do we do now?

    Thank you in advance,
    Rene Clark
