I have been grappling with a difficult decision for the last couple of weeks and, while of course I will have to be the one to make it, nonetheless I would love to hear from any of y'all who might have experience with this. My 4 or 5-year-old llama Pablo has developed severe dropped pasterns in a rather short time. Last year, while we were still in NM, I noticed that they were at something of an angle (but tried not to think about it, I guess). They are now almost completely flat, and although he has not shown symptoms yet that it is hurting him, I had reached the conclusion that I'd rather have him put down before that happens and spare both of us a protracted painful experience. It's a big decision, though, and now I'm waffling and wondering if I'm being premature and selfish, wanting to spare myself discomfort at the cost of what could be a couple years of life for him. I know that nobody can predict how long it will be before he starts to struggle. Needless to say I love him dearly and want to make a decision that will be the best for both of us. Thank you for your input, I've missed posting on the Forum during this time when I have few issues as my animals are not living with me right now. I'm sorry to have to come back with this sad question! Best, Paulette
