Our alpaca cria was born on Wednesday and has not gained any weight. In fact, he lost a little today (born 13.8 lbs and now 13.4). Mom is producing milk and cria seems to be latching and nursing. Yesterday he was running around with lots of energy. Today he still seemed healthy, but not nursing as much and not running as much. It has been brutally hot (totay was 93). Is it 'normal' for newborns to struggle with nursing and weight gain when it is very hot out? We are thinking of bring him to the vet tomorrow. Thoughts?

Edit: We did have a vet come out to the farm to check him on day two and we did have blood drawn. He did get enough colostrum. This morning he is back to his birth weight and he is running around. Perhaps it is just the heat. Unless someone says otherwise, we are going to hold off on another vet visit.
