“Friendly Alpacas” on the news again!

I am frustrated by videos of alpacas that let you cuddle them and grab their necks or even pick them up (crias). After these stories air on tv I always get feedback from friends and (especially) family who say, “Why aren’t your alpacas friendly like those are?”
I got my first alpaca 4 years ago, thinking I would train her to be a therapy animal to take to schools and retirement homes, maybe even a wedding. I soon discovered that alpacas don’t like being “mauled”by humans. My girls don’t really like being touched. I have 4 females and a cria. What can I do to encourage the cria to not be afraid of humans? I would love to have alpacas that are a bit more interactive. BTW, I have been to two Camelidynamics camps!
