We are first-time owners of 4 llamas that arrived about 3 weeks ago 3 females and a gelded male. We have 2.5 acres, and our llamas have access to about 1.5 of those acres.

The pasture is a mixture of grass and weeds, and we will be improving that. Right now, they're delicately picking the good stuff and ignoring the rest. There are also some blackberry brambles along the edge, which they seem to enjoy, and several trees, although those are close to being eaten back to llama-nose height.

We've been supplimenting their grazing with about 3 cups of commercial llama feed. Is this adequate? Is it necessary?

As we're entering our two annual drought months here in NW Oregon, the grasses are slowing down their growth. Should we give the llamas more of the commercial feed? Supplement with hay?

What clues should we watch for to know if they're getting enough to eat?

    Thanks so much!
