We have a maiden alpaca who we suspect may be pregnant, but too early to tell by ultrasound. During her scan, the technician thought she saw an amniotic sac with fluid, but wasn't sure. My question is, will this female always refuse to cush for a male if she is pregnant, or will she still allow a male if she is in early pregnancy? She was put with an experienced male yesterday and refused to cush, but did not seem stressed, and did not spit at him. She is constantly spitting at our male, and we did see them breed several weeks ago. Our animals are both young (about 20 months). The breeder seems to think that she stays standing because she doesn't know what to do, and that our male is probably too young to impregnate her. I would love some feed back from my experienced alpaca friends here! thanks.
