We have a 12 year old female llama who presented not wanting to use her rear right leg a few weeks ago. There have been several breeding attempts by our castrated male (who now lives in another yard) over the past few months, so we believe that is what has caused her to become lame. We have tried meloxicam injections and daily tablets, and also anesthetized her (primarily to trim her teeth) to acquire radiographs of both of her rear limbs to confirm there are no broken bones. As of now, our veterinarian believes the issue to be a torn quadriceps muscle or a ruptured joint capsule in the stifle. I've been doing some research from the equine field and have found some treatments, most of which are stem cell therapies, which is definitely feasible for us to do. Has anyone else had experience with this issue? And what treatments did you try with successes and failures?
