Hi Marty, First let me say I thoroughly enjoyed your virtual seminar and I'm still enjoying the taped sessions. Thanks for organizing it! Here's my question: I have 6 llamas new to me since November 2021. Their ages range from 9 months to 6 years old and according to the previous owners have never been sheared. I have a shearer set to.come here in 10 days. She shears by putting them in her trailer and tying their halter/heads rather high, from what I understand. She will also trim their nails. My concern is that I have not worked with these llamas yet. I haven't even put halters on them yet. I'm nervous that this shearing/toe trimming might be traumatic to them and make future shearing/trims difficult. Should I skip shearing this season and work on haltering, desensitizing, etc? I live in West Texas where the temperatures get up to 109. I feel that is too hot to go without shearing, but the lady I got them from is from New Mexico where the temperatures also get quite hot and she never sheared them. What are your thoughts? Thank you so much
