I have been working with my new male llama. He is scared of halters. I have been taking my time with the catch pen. Using the wand and catch rope. Not very good at it yet but I have been able to catch him and do circular rubs on his neck. He will come up to me and eat from my bowl or treats. However today when I was practicing with him , after I had the catch rope on him. ( I do have trouble keeping it high enough. I try to tighten it but have trouble with this) I decided to just let me sniff the halter and I put it up to his neck and rubbed it a little on him to see his reaction. He started quivering and shaking some. I then undid his catch rope and let him out of his catch pen. He started making the most bizarre noise. He has only made this noise once before on the first day I brought him home. Is sound like a cross of a person laughing heavily and a horse calling out across a field to another horse. Not sure how to explain it. He did it for about 5 minutes. Almost like he is calling out to something. It doesnt sound like a humming or an alert screech but I have not heard either of those so I am not sure.
