I am new to llamas but not large animals. I received a mama llama and her cria as a gift. I was hoping to keep them both, but in what I have been reading it looks like mama will have to go back to her girls and I will need to find the male weanling a "mentor". He will be weaned in another month or so. I am looking for some advice on what I need to look for in a mentor, and the age of the mentor. IE is a 2 year old gelding old enough or should I look for older? I didn't want to go to old as I want to be able to pack, hike them together. The weanling is very smart, curious, and bored! There are some pack llamas, somewhat local for sale, (5-6 years) of age that might be options, but I am even sure what to ask.
